Hi Winnie, You sure a sentimental lady, remembering good friend's birthday. Good for you!
I bet you shared many laughters, secrets and cheeky stories with Pearline, huh?
I know girls love to go shopping together, then have banana split or ice kachang somewhere and chat about clothes, fashions or boyfriends. Ha ha.
I used to have my ice coffee at Mandarin Hotel coffee lounge, Chatterbox? Forgot the name. Or at Shangrila Hotel listening to Matthew and the Mandarins at nights. (Tried to date a lovely tall waitress there, but found out she wears a wedding ring, ha ha).
My favourite place when dating Singapore girls was dinner at Neptune's or that seafood restaurant at ECP by the beach near that big children's pool slide (waitresses wore sarongs) and then at the Kasbah, Mandarin.
Or candle light dinner at the Belvedere, Mandarin.
Fish or prawn porridge after midnight at Shangrila Hotel. Yes, I love Singapore too. (and the lovely ladies too, of course, ha ha) UL.

hehe Uncle Lee, I'm also emotional too. My hubby will tease me when I cried watching sad movies.:P

yup, my galfriends and I do share alot of stuffs Uncle Lee. I'm blessed to have a few close "Angels" who are always there to lift me up when my wings could not fly :) I have my close group of galfriends whom I knew from school days; and I'm thankful that till now, our friendship is still going stong. :)

You have a good memory Uncle Lee, yes, it is Chatterbox. Chatterbox's famous for their chicken rice too, although not one of my fav. (I do like the samsui ginger chicken from shan1 zhong1 liang1 wan3) Hawker food are always my fav. Alot of the yummy, nice, good foods can be found in hawker centres all over Sg. Galfriends and I, we love to go hi-tea on weekends. Ritz Carlton, Marriotts, Mandarin, Continential Hotel enjoying the pastries, drinking tea, listening to the live soft music. Im sure if you go back to ECP, you wont recognize that place, it has changed alot. Now, there are alot of seafood restaurants (dont think the one with the waitress weariing sarongs is still around hehehe), even a water ski area.

How can you not love Singapore (and the lovely ladies) huh Uncle Lee ;P hehehe

Hi Winnie, I do have lots of memories of Singapore.
Dated quite a few girls too. One a multi-millionaires...but I chabut out early, too rich for me. Back in the 60's I stayed at LadyHill when I worked in both Singapore/JB, commuting daily. Also at Goodwood. But later on my favourites were Mandarin and Shangrila.
Ahhh, but I love Raffles. Coffee and scones. Or their famous Gin Sling. But I never went gila over that.
Used to go Bugis street at nights for makan, or North Bridge road mornings for bak kut teh. Or that market place on beach road I think near the harbour, that place still around I heard Lau pak sat or something I lupa.
Ohh, and weekends used to browse at Change Alley.
Then at nights take my current flame (from Malaysia) to Bedok for seafood. After that go for a walk near the beach.
Re foodcourts, the one on Bukit Timah near Clemenseau Ave boleh tahan.
I am still using the Zippo lighter I bought at Lucky Plaza in 1972.
But I did not fool around too much in Singapore because expensive as well got busybody relatives there, ha ha.
Singapore has changed so much. Money grow on trees there. Ha ha. UL.

haha Uncle Lee, too rich that u chabut? alamak, dont be scared, sure u can handle her parents esp the mom with ur charm ;P

Ahh, Shangrila, the 'privacy' of that place..doesnt surprised me y its one of ur fav hehehe Raffles as always, so classy and elegant, isnt it?

Bugis street has changed quite a bit too, the best bak kut teh for me is the one at Eunos,a coffee shop near the MRT station.

There's a nice little place near the beach in Changi(Singapore yatch club), a nice restaurant, very romantic. You can choose to dine outside which is dinner table set up on the sand, near the sea, under the moonlight with the ocean waves...Ahhmmm...

Bukit Timah hawker center has the nicest fried carrot cake yum yum yum hehehe

Ure still using the Zippo lighter u bought at Lucky Plaza in 1972? wow durable huh..Its those that you can refill with gas? Even Lucky Plaza has changed alot, into a hippy funky place attracting the younger generations there. A little like the Hong Kong shopping malls.

"got busybody relatives there" hahaha I can empathize with that :P

For a little red dot like Singapore to achieve so much in so little time (42 years, 1965 we became independent), we have indeed taken the highway to get to where we are. Most countries might need double the time. Perhaps in that 'hurry to grow up', we have sacrificed the luxury of 'taking the time to smell the roses'

First of all Happy Birthday Pearline. May your year be filled with lots of laughter, happiness and blessings from above.

Now Winnie, what is all this talk about food and Singapore? Then Uncle Lee and his memories of the SYTs there.
When I worked in KL, my head office was based in Singapore. So every year for annual meeting, we are flown there and put up in hotel. I love Trader's Hotel. The Executive floor was a real treat. Oh and recently when I was back in Malaysia, I went down to Singapore. My cousins and I had hi-tea at the Mandarin. Very good food, I must say.

I miss my bestfriend, Pat (Lady Patsy). We used to do a lot of the girlfriend stuff in KL. But I cannot complain. When I am down on holiday, if we don't see each other, we are on the phone or we text message everyday. :)

Hi Winnie
Ellenbrough market cafe at traders - is that in the hotel? My stay there was like 11 years ago. Whatever it is, the food is good in that hotel.

Mandarin Hotel... once again, I never take notice of some names but the food was definitely good. :)

Getting old la Winnie. I keep forgetting names but never what food or people that satisfied me. hahaha

Then I went crazy with the chocolate fountain. Picked up some strawberries, dipped them in the dark chocolate, sprinkled with nuts and chips. ooooo...

Oh dear, I better make that chocolate cake, I have been meaning to try. The weekend seems like a good time. :)

I just saw your other comment. Most probably your sister will have the same traits as me. It will never be 100% because we were brought up in different homes but you will get an idea. haha
Have a good weekend, Winnie.

j.t. ure making me drool lah! hahaha..ooo chocolate cake? do make it and then take some nice pic of the cake to show us huh. Ur hubby is a lucky guy..bet ure like Uncle Lee's wife. She got Uncle Lee 'all hooked' up with her cooking! ;) which guy can resist a woman who can cook well huh :)

I suppose people with the same birth date do share smiliar traits :)

u hv a great weekend too!

J.T. said...

I will try to bake a cake. The operative word here is TRY. hahaha
If I do, I will take a picture.
I don't think I am that good a cook. He does tell me that food is good but I don't hear it often enough. haha
Still, it is flattering when he asks me to cook and refrigerate a few dishes, before I go anywhere for a few days - like my recent trip to Rome. :)

j.t. im sure u can do it!! :) go go j.t! ehhehe

I know, man can be very 'stingy' with appreciative words..it doesnt cost them much to say so, isnt it? hehehe but then when they ask for second helpings or say, 'ccok that thing u cook last week that fish/chicken/XXX.. u know u know..' then u know they like ur cooking in a very indirect way of saying! hahaha
