One Habit that just can't change
Habit does change a bit when you are in different places. Was clearing the fridge and saw these little sachets of ketchup which was left over from our fast food takeaways..
I remembered back home, when we go for fast food, my tray will always be filled with at least 5-6 packets of CHILLI sauce, never ketchup for me (I don't waste my sachets of chilli sauce huh, always finished using them) I can not understand why fast food here never have chilli sauce only ketchup (except Taco Bell, they have the hot sauces and trust me, it wasn't really that HOT. Its really liquid liquid kind, only the 'Fire' ones have a little kick.
Family and friends used to joke, "Need us to send u some McDonald chilli sachets or not?" or "bring along a bottle of chilli sauce with you when you go out" hahahah However, in our home, you will definitely find chilli in all forms (sambal olek, sweet chilli sauce, hot chilli sauce, chilli powder, dried chilli oh and of course we have the small finger chilli in the fridge too)
This is one spice that you can always find in my kitchen..I guess some habits (taste) just cant change ;)

Yep Yep! Wonder if chilli sauce is an Asian thingy. Did realise they dun serve chilli sauce in fast food restaurants in the States. But neither in India nor China too. Strange.
They call it hot sauce in States and Canada rite?

gua ini, don't quite take to chillie sauce, except for sambal belacan. prefer fresh chillies, the red ones and the chillie padi...in soya sauce.
poohbearee, I guess its very much singaporean, malaysian, indonesian fast food serves chilli sauce. The western countries such as Australia, NZ, States, hmm..even in HK, I dont think I get chilli sauce at KFC hehehe
I seldom ask for chilli sauces over here..the most i ask for is tabasco sauce :P

nyonyapenang, most of those chilli are for cooking, making sauces (like sweet and sour sauce), dipping sauce once a while if we hv fish fingers or finger food..
Back home, I definitely love the sambal chilli (hubby he's not really into the 'dried shrimp' taste in there) and if I hv noodles, its definitely dry noodles with my 'green chili soaked in vinegar' kind and those thai chilli padi. :)

OH MY GOD , we are the same I thought I am vaint hahahha,
I had all kind of chilli in my kitche too . I find the a few chilli sauce is rather nice I get in tesco .will post it to show you .
wow . I also like nyonyapenang love chilli padi for all my mee hoon and bak koo teh ,is the best with chilli padi , we have it in UK too .

Sgaporeans, malaysian hving chilli is like the westerners hving ketchup sama sama just that we have more varieties with our chilli :)
oh yes! my steph love to add a little chill sauce when she cook herself megi mee , all my kids love megimee there cook in the mirowave fast and easy when I am not around,
derek he love every kind of curry must malaysia style , he love beef redang especaily ,I do cook a bit malaysia at home , I also make satay for my kids, there love it, cos too much to eat at the chinese mall cos 4 stick £4.50p I pay for 2 whole chicken in tesco only £5 I can make around 100 stick satay and I will bbq it hehehe.
in the fast food here there do have sweet chilli sauce like you say not as gud as malaysia , well how can we leave without chilli ???
I have my chilli stuff too. Sometimes when I cook instant noodles, I throw in fresh cut chillies. When I cook claypot rice (aiyah.. rice and chicken in my rice cooker! hehe), I have cut chillis in soy sauce on the side.
Most restaurants in the States do not have chilli sauce except places like Taco Bell (so far). Their regular hot sauce is like watered down tomato ketchup. :)
My favourite at the moment is the crispy sambal. I bought two bottles from the non-halal section in Tesco, Klang. I can get almost the same thing from distributor, Cosway (Malaysia). Yummy... I have it with rice when I cook some kind of curry.
I love sambal belacan but so hard to get belacan where I live. Nyonya mentioned it and now I am thinking of it. I wonder if the postman will smell it if my sister sends it to me. hehe
If only belacan can grow on trees. :D
I haven't been able to take too much chilli padi. I take my hat off to Nyonya and Pearly for that. I can try a little bit but the "pedas" soy sauce (from soaking the chilli padi) is more than enough for me. :)
You should encourage your family to send over some chilli sauce lar ^-^
Hi Winnie, Jasmin at Foodcourt has those packet chillies. Had two with my beef char kueh teow.
Infact I must have sliced chillies every meal, chillies with pak yow.
Told my wife to pickle some put in small bottle when we go out to eat can have it.
I am a chillie man. Ha ha. UL.
i lov chilli too! my favourite is belachan chilli but most pp dont get what i mean by that and give me sambal instead. il b leavin singapore for a long time soon and i think il hv to bring lotsa belachan over cos i doubt pp in the states will even understand sambal... ;)
The kids and derek are so lucky to hv such a good cook like u pearly :) Next time when they go back to malaysia for a holiday, they can taste alot more of malaysia's yummy food.
its true, cooking at home is more cost saving and if you can make ur own, that is so much more cheaper than buying at the stores. wow, satay..one of my fav too!

wow claypot rice, with sausages, chicken, mushrooms..yummmm...yeah just like bak ku teh, claypot rice must have chilli with soya sauce if not it just seems 'incomplete' :)

Enjoy your cripsy sambal, i think if your sister really wrap it in layers of bubblewrap, put in ziplock bags and tape it all up..dont think the postman can smell it at all ;)

Just remember, if you do pack those to bring it over, you hv to pack in ur check in luaggage ok..dont hand carry. The last time that I came to Canada, i tried to bring those bottles of sambal belacan and chilli sauce in my hand luaggage, cant bring it over! *sob sob* (they are really strict in Hong Kong airport where I stop over)

yes ! my 2 son love to go back to malaysia there had been back for tweice now , last year we went back for jan wedding , this year there already say wanted to go back again , there do enjoy the food there but my steph is not really that knee .derek just love it , he even wanted to buy a house there silly men la.

Kekeke...I like chillies and hot stuff too! The only part of me that has remained true to my teensy Thai blood, is my love for all things spicy! *Licks lips*...Which is why whenever I am sick (as in gastric or sorethroat), I wil 'die'! Boohooo...

Ur Derek wanted to buy a house in Malaysia? If possible, y not? Its a pretty good idea, can buy the house, then rent it out or when you guys go back for holiday, you have your 'own resort' that isnt a bad idea too ;)

Oh you hv thai blood in u? :) Thai food is really nice even their dessert; mango rice pudding, steam tapoica with coconut and of course their coconut juice..arhhhh..:P
I know! When we are sick, hv to eat, 'plain plain, soupy, no chilli food..' life seems sooo "plain"! So for "chlli" sake, take good care and stay healthy okie! *hugs* :)
